Frequently asked questions
Why do UVI·eye's numbers differ from my weather app's UV index?
Weather apps report the horizontal UV index — a measure of the dose reaching your skin, which scales roughly with the sine of the sun's elevation and peaks at noon. UVI·eye computes the load on your eyes: the cornea is a nearly vertical, forward-facing surface hit by near-horizontal sun, and its geometric weight actually rises when the sun is low. The two are not meant to match, and their peaks are often offset.
Does it need location running all the time? Is it a battery or privacy drain?
No. The app requests location only while in use, and only at reduced accuracy (about 1 km is enough for the solar geometry). Your location is used on your device and sent to Apple Weather to fetch the UV index — never to us or any third party. See the privacy policy.
Where does the data come from? Is it accurate?
The UV index comes from Apple Weather (WeatherKit), the same source as the system Weather app. UVI·eye converts it into an ocular exposure curve using the sun's elevation and incidence geometry.
Does it support Apple Watch and widgets?
Yes. The Watch app and home-/lock-screen widgets show the current window's eye risk. Widgets read a local snapshot the app produces; they don't fetch data over the network on their own.
Will it track me or show ads?
No. There are no third-party analytics, no advertising identifiers (such as IDFA), and no tracking prompt. It's a standalone app with no backend server of ours.
